About Us
THE RUSSIAN RIVER HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Founded in 1983 as a nonprofit membership organization, the Russian River Historical Society collects and preserves historic materials donated to the Society. We host annual and one-time events that give our members and guests opportunities to learn about the history of the Russian River. We also participate in community events sponsored by other local organizations.
Our volunteers staff the Cazadero History Learning Center, while others offer an annual tour of the Redwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Guerneville. We also have a dedicated team of volunteers who help maintain this historic cemetery.
We have created a number of historic plaques that highlight some of the most significant buildings and structures in our area. Our members have also developed displays telling the story of the region at the Guerneville Bank Club. Others have organized educational events focused on the histories of towns along the river—such as our 40th anniversary celebration and similar programs for Rio Nido and Monte Rio.
The Russian River Historical Society is always seeking historical documents, photographs, and artifacts related to the area. We are committed to preserving the history of this remarkable region.
